About me

I’m known to the world as many things. By definition, I’m a “Shreya Subramaniam” but many recognize me as the girl who makes an art project out of the quotidian occurrences of life. Those who have known me in my youth have first encountered my "art-projectification” tendencies when they’d witness me coloring my friends’ hair with highlighters or when they’d see me pull my hair out over making sure that the sun at the corner of the drawing paper was the correct shade of gold. What started out as childhood innocence and playful curiosity eventually developed into a deeper, more refined thirst for knowledge and desire to change fundamental aspects of my experience and community. It was from this desire that my attention to detail and appreciation of aesthetics grew strong. I saw that my ability to find the beauty and utility in the mundane could be applied to solving sociopolitical and practical problems in our everyday lives. This would allow me to share the work I do on a larger scale, thus giving other burgeoning artists the opportunity to see the world as romantically as I do.

The work in this portfolio is a visual representation of my unwavering optimism and desire to turn life’s problems into art projects. I use my sense of childlike wonder and penchant for asking questions to carefully analyze the world around me. I take the issues I witness and combine them with my passions to produce products, prototypes, photographs, and posters. This website will take you on a journey through all of the personal pains and passions I’ve “art-projectified” by detailing my design process as well as my final products.
